Blue Moons and More

I love every color of the rainbow, but if I had to pick a favorite, it would be BLUE. Other colors, like orange and yellow, can really look out of place in lots of settings. They are best as accents. But blue? It blends in everywhere, in all its many shades from aquamarine to sky blue. Check out the samples below from my Naturally Blue Pinterest boards and see if you don’t agree.

Color Riot

This series of Natural Colors blog posts has been focusing on one color at a time. Today’s entry is a bit different…it is about that “color” that is a swirling mish-mash of multiple colors–“Iridescent.” You may not have ever used that word yourself, but you will immediately recognize what it is referring to when you check out the various samples below from my Naturally Iridescent Pinterest board.

A Splash of Orange

I have always thought of orange as kind of a quirky color. For instance, most folks don’t typically choose to wear orange clothes. (Except for situations where you want to be noticed …like an orange cap or jacket when you go hunting, so other hunters don’t think you are a deer!) When is the last time you saw an orange ball gown or an orange dinner jacket?

But God didn’t seem to short-change orange when it comes to clothing all sorts of animals and plants and natural phenomena! Enjoy some strikingly noticeable examples below from my Naturally Orange Pinterest board.

Green With(out) Envy

Color in nature is so evocative! To many people, red implies intensity, yellow is cheerful, pink is delicate and pretty. I don’t know about others, but the dominant “feel” I get from green in natural settings is often “refreshment.” See if you agree as you consider some photos of green natural wonders from my Naturally Green Pinterest board.

Pretty in Pink

I find red the most intense color in nature, and yellow the most cheerful. I’ll bet many folks would also agree with me that the color that is most delicately pretty is pink. Check out these pics from my Naturally Pink Pinterest board, and see what you think.

Color Me Cheerful

Recent posts on the BrightStarr blog have focused on how colorful black and white can be, and how intensely colorful red is. I suppose perceptions of colors are somewhat subjective. But I would venture to say that many people, including me, find the most “cheerful” color to be yellow. Check out the collection of pics below from my Naturally Yellow pinterest board and see if you agree.

More than Red Roses

The previous BrightStarr blog entry emphasized how “colorful” black and white can be out in nature. And while that’s true, I’m pretty sure that the MOST colorful color is actually red! At least, it certainly is the most “intense” color. To prove my point, here is a collection of photos from my “Naturally Red” Pinterest board. Lots more than just red roses.

Naturally Brown

We don’t often think of brown as a real “color”…at least not one of the first ones that pops to mind when someone says “What’s your favorite color?” That honor usually goes to some version of the Primary Colors…red, yellow, blue…or maybe a combination of two of those, purple or green or orange.

But actually, brown IS a combination too. Shades of brown are just varying mixtures of red, yellow–and black. And there really is quite a variety of tones in the brown palette. I used to be fascinated, when getting a BIG box of Crayola Crayons, to look through and see all the brown choices. I always thought “Burnt Sienna” was a cool name for a color.

I have dedicated one of my Pinterest boards to all the brown-colored things one can find out in nature. It might be landscape, plants, animals, birds, fish, whatever. I was amazed at what a variety of items I have been able to include. Below are just a sample of the entries on my “Naturally Brown” board. See the link at the end to go see more.
